Emergency Support Services (ESS)
ESS volunteers are trained to help evacuees during emergencies and disasters.
Peninsula residents evacuated from their homes by fire, floods, earthquakes, or other emergencies may
receive emergency support services for up to 72 hours.
In the event of a disaster, you may not be able to remain in your residence. In this case, the Local Authority will initiate an emergency response.
In a significant event, ESS will set up a Reception Centre on the Saanich Peninsula. ESS volunteers will meet with residents needing support with food, shelter, clothing and other necessities to meet basic needs for up to 72 hours. ESS has agreements with many Saanich Peninsula businesses to assist those who are evacuated to meet these needs.
Emergency Support Services volunteers:
-
Manage the provision of food, shelter, clothing and basic needs for evacuees.
-
Set up reception centres and group lodging for large incidents.
-
Establish agreements with local businesses to provide evacuees with basic needs.
-
Work in coordination with other emergency responders, services organizations, and government agencies to assist evacuees in the first 72 hours and prepare for their next steps.
